Hello from Brittany. We have kept chickens for 6 years. We began with Marans, but have since changed breed, and now keep Coucou de Rennes, which is a Breton breed, which has been close to extinction, but is doing well once again. We found the Marans cockerels to be too aggressive, and as we have children, we decided to change. 7 little chicks hatched this weekend, with another on its' way out. I sit watching the chickens for hours; absolutely love them.
We have just bought an extra bit of land next to our cottage, so am hoping to get another breed- perhaps Brahma, Noire du Berry, or Rhode Island ( although we have heard the cockerels can bit a bit feisty, too.)

Glad you joined us!

Thanks for the info on Rhode island cockerels. Another chick has hatched, actually we helped her hatch, because we have had. few humidity problems, and little Remi needed a little help !.. so, 8 chicks this time, 15 last year...
