We lost a Pekin, but 1 Cayuga, 1 White Egg Layer and 9 Pekins arrived alive. Now we have to figure out a new brooder situation because we know they'll grow fast.

We lost a Pekin in our batch of ducklings about a month ago. It was alive when we left the hatchery, and dead when we got home.

We bought a 2x4x6 gallon tank from tractor supply. The ducklings (4) were in it for 3 weeks, and then we moved them outside into a pen not because they didn't fit, but because they were so messy. The tank was 89 dollars, but it is something you can use over and over again with each new batch of poultry.

When my wife picked them up they looked like they were dying. She was told not to feed them medicated chick feed and she wanted to give them something ASAP since it looked like they were in a shipping box for 4 days.

Anyway, I looked it up on here and then on several hatchery sites and they said it was okay to feed medicated chick feed. So we went ahead with that too.

I was thinking about getting the tank. I decided I'm going to build it for them since we can use it for chickens too. My wife wants to add to our 7 chickens.

Don't give them too much medicated chick feed. Ducks are known to over-eat, and they can poison themselves off of medicated feed.

We live out by woods, so we always start our chicks off in a brooder, but now that we have our "transition pen" which our ducklings are currently in, we are going to start keeping the brooder outside in the pen rather than inside the house, with a heat lamp of course.
