Hurray! I want one, but I am only on year three of the 'ten year plan'. The husband is weakening, I can feel it.
I plan on making cheeses and soaps, and drinking it...maybe sharing...somewhere in my imagination, I have it all planned out! But you have a real one! Take a look at this link!

You can always think of things to do with goats milk.

As said, cheese, soaps etc. You can give it to pets too but around here we would be drinking so much I dont think it would get to that, lol.

I am hoping eventually to get a couple Nigerian Dwarf milk goats.
Nubians are wonderful. What color is she?

Yea! Enjoy her and the milk. I just made feta cheese, a little salty but not too bad. Nubians have good milk for it, more butterfat than a Saanen or a Togg

i have yet to drink her milk...

so for you goat milkers out there-

how long is the mlik good for?

how do i make sure that it is clean and ok to drink?

i've been straining it with a tea strainer and it's looking pretty clean.... do i have to boil it?

strain it and drink it. Boiling it will kill all the good stuff in it. The flavor of the milk will depend on what the goat has been eating, so if it tastes weird, it might be her grub.

Don't forget to chill it in the freezer first! If you don't it may taste funny.

Use glass to store the milk in, it won't affect the flavor as much.

Raw milk CAN last up to 2 weeks, although a week is more common. Cool it as soon as possible. Get "Goats Produce Too!" and it will give you directions on cooling, cheesemaking, puddings, goat meat and even soaps.

ok no problem.

another weird question that i'd rather not google is

Do i have to worry about things like listeria with goats milk?

I've been wiping down her teats with warm water and a rag prior to milking... i dont want to dry them out and she's pretty clean...well as clean as a goat can be i guess...

I only hesitate because im planning on getting pregnant in the next year and i dont want to start drinking ( i'd prob. just dry her off and re breed her later on) it if i cant drink it while pregnant.
