hooray! i just went down to our local feed store and got 3 day-old chicks for my easter present! They are: 1 Partridge Cochin, 1 Production Red( that's like a RIR, right?), and 1 Barred Rock! Being that this was only 1/2 an hour ago, im ecstatic! more baby chicks for me!

A production red is usually some sort of Rhode Island cross, yes. They're egg-laying machines, so you'll be glad you have her.

A production red is not a RIR. A production red is using a RIR or a NHR rooster to cross to make a red sexlink of several different names depending on the hatchery and the area of the country you are in - golden comets, cinnamon queen etc.
