Well I had originally purchased 9 keets, unfortunately We lost 2. I have been putting off the seperate 1 at a time sexing trick. Well tonight we did it, and out of 7 we have 5 hens! I was assuming it would be like chickens and 6 out of 7 would be roosters. Im so excited!
I was wondering, someone told my husband that they mate for life and we need a boy for every girl. Is this true? Its the first I heard of that.
Also I was wondering is there anything a guineas should not eat? Toxic to them?

Congrats, 5 Hens and 2 males is a good ratio. Only 2 buttheads in your flock!

Not all Guineas mate for life... that's typically only the case with wild Guineas (that rarely live long enough to change mates, because something eats them for lunch!). All my males are opportunists and they will breed as many Hens as they can, and a lot of my Hens are floozies and change mates several times a season or have multiple mates, lol. Sometimes there are iron clad trios of 2 Hens and a male that will stick together a full season, but by the next season it's a different combo.

Things that I especially avoid feeding my Guineas are avocados/avocado peels, chocolate and anything that has caffeine (even coffee grounds in the compost pile). I shy away from all of those, plus any foods or treats that have high sugar or salt levels. Here is a great chart that lists all the common things fed to poultry that tells you if it's safe to feed to your birds or not... it's typed up for chickens, but I think it's safe to assume it also would apply to Guineas.

Thank you so much Peeps! I am always learning from you!
I hear so much about millet and meal worms, but mine go nuts over watermelon and papaya.
of course I havent tried the worms yet, I am in a small town where the closest anything is an hour and a half away. So miss them when their in stock.
