Well after my whole shipping mess-up...
springfield postal annex (they know me due to my daddy working for 34 years there til he passed) called me and said
HEY! Your chicks are here..if youw ant to come get them..c'mon over..just use the employee gate..

so I drove over...and i have 28 chicks..(ordered 25) and 2 I was/am worried about.

I gave sugar water w/a dropper and they seemed to perk up a bit..but not much..they are wobbly and just keeps falling over etc..

anyway; I'll keep an eye on those two..already tho; we do have a bully lol..(Probably a roo! LOL)

OK, I'll post pics of each kind later on..I gotta figure out what I ordered and what i got..cause I HAVE NO CLUE except
for the naked neckers lol..

LOL! My DH thought something was wrong with one of the little ones, and then saw it was a Turken! Very cute. Are they in a black Rubbermaid tub or in a galvanized tank? We couldn't tell (I said Rubbermaid, he said galvanized). Congrats... I hope the sickie peeps end up okay.

Our new babies arrive in 3 weeks!

I get chicks all the time...I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the reasons they send extras is because some just wont make it period...called failure to thrive...its just mother nature.
Im curious..which hatchery??
If more than say 4-5 fall over you call that hatchery and fuss...they will send you replacements or at least give you a credit.
DO NOT DO eye dropper at that age unless its already half dead...you can easily asperate and kill it with your good intentions. Just dip their beaks in the waterer when they first arrive if you dont have grow gel...only need to dip[ a few, the rest will watch and learn. Only do sugar water day one...about tbspoon or a little less to the gallon. Too much sugar can also kill them so ONLY DAY ONE!
One of the BEST...ok 2 of the BEST products you can have on hand BEFORE the chicks arrive (but after doesnt hurt) is
OUIK CHICK and GROW GEL.
I sound like a commerial but Im not...I just do chicks by the hundreds and I can tell ya THIS COMBO will cut your losses, esp. if they had a rough trip or hung up in the mail...Ill even mix up the grow gel and carry it to the PO or AIRLINES with me and get it in the box before they get home and they LOVE IT and it gets moisture and good bacteria in them without making a watery mess...you can get both products at the larger hatcheries and/or any pet supply place.

I hope you little guys make it, they are very cute...the falling over is norma when they first arrive and for about the first 10 hours...its not a good sign but usually they figure out on their own which end is up

l and your doing the right thing with paper towels...another thing that works well is that rubber stuff they use in RVs to keep stuff from slipping off the counter-and can easily be rinsed and disinfected.
You may need a second brooder for the weaker ones as the strong ones will walk acorss them while sleeping till they are dead.

I hope all goes well for your little babies!

And yes its a RIR.

sickly is MUCH better today!!

We replaced the sugar water with regular water by now...
I can't quite find sickly; so that means he/she is running around w/the others!

I do have a turken that has a bubble on the side of its neck tho.. ??(I put in the injuries/sick/emergency forum)..not sure
if thats normal for turkens or not??

now; I'll have to sort out later this a/m what I have of what kind ...I'm sure I'll get them wrong but...I want to know
what I have "extra"...

so I'm supposed to have:

5 RIR
5 Black australorp
5 red sexlink
5 turkens
5 Barred rocks

so we'll see what I actually ended up with!

yay-- well I think..lol

I'll post pics later on ..well in a bit; when my g'friend gets here to help hold them while i snap pics :)

The bubble on the neck sounds like her crop. It's where the food waits to be processed. It's completely normal, and your little naked neck chick is sooo cute, you are making me want some now.
