Candled my very first batch at school today...showed it to the admins and the kids...wow was that cool! Saw the heartbeat in one, eeee! I'm gonna be a chicken mama!

That is sooo exciting, isn't it??!! I used to teach kindergarten and would candle the eggs a lot to show people which now I know was NOT a good thing to do. So, a word to the wise, don't keep doing it or your hatch may not be very good (like mine). Wish I'd known then what I know now. Good luck with your chicks!

Cool!!! I'm on day 3...only 9 more and I can candle!!!

Eggs are on day 12...a very nice lady farmer let me collect a dozen silkie eggs from her flock. Only one was infertle, the others look good!
Now I have to track down some feed for when they're born...feed stores aren't exactly plentiful out here.

Ask the lady you got the eggs from where you can get chick starter.
