The newspaper this morning had a reminder not to buy a chick or baby bunny for your kids, and to get a stuffed animal instead.

Yep a Pet is for life not just Christmas or Easter or anytime your not prepared to take them on their life time commitment.....

I dont mind people that buy pets at holidays..as long as they plan to KEEP them..
I think a holiday such as easter is a GREAT time to introduce your child to raising chickens or ducks...
again..as long as you plan on KEEPING the animals...

I don't know.... I just told a couple of mom's who want to get chicks but can't keep them... to hand them over to me... as long as they are egg layers.

I used to take in alot of sick injured or abandoned ducks. There were always more about a month after Easter. So sad that people dont think about the requirements of an adult duck when they buy a cute little fluffy duckling at Easter. The problem with chicks at easter is usually they will always tun out Roosters.

Last year I wanted a duck for Easter. The only person I could find who was hatching has a single Aylesbury just hatched. I drove two hours to buy him and he is now huge - but still loved jsut as much as when he was little. he is no longer as cute- But he sure has so much personality.
