So after a tense USPS lack of tracking, the baby ducks arrive this morning. The two Swedish Blues and two Pekin I ordered. Plus a bonus duckling. I’m not too sure what it is. It’s as big as the Pekins but has different markings than the Swedish blue, yet similar coloring. Any ideas?

Will do tomorrow. Trying to let them recover.😀

when can I let them go for a warm swim in the tub? They’re a little poopy covered.

oh, and one keeps attacking its own vent. Stopped up? I’m new to all this

I usually start with a walk through a pie plate the first time, and work up to the bath tub. You just don't want them to get water logged (really wet down) or chilled. Add a little bit of lettuce or greens (teaspoon) to the water to get them interested in the water. After the bath they can be toweled off and put back under their heat lamp. Exposer to water will stimulate their oil glands and help make them water proof. You can let them swima couple times a day in the beginning if you keep the time short.

Any suggests on catching them to get them to a swimming pan and to dry them off?Im giving them the 24 rest period after the travel Right now.I did have to catch one and put her in warm water to uncrust her vent, she kept biting at it. But it was hard to get her,and they were freaked out.

Ive sat and watched, and talked, and played music for them for a couple hours, while making sure they were all eating and drinking. Now they’re corked out and I’ve left them to be for a while. My Border Collie is intently by my side when Im out there.lol

Move slowly and approach from the side instead of from above. Predators snatch them from above so their instinct says, PANIC! Try to scoop instead. You can simple rest your hand near them. I would not give them a rest period because imprinting occurs in the first 48 hours. Just be calm and gentle and don’t let them get chilled. They will most likely be happier in your lap than left alone.

Hard to tell from the pics. What hatchery are they from? Looks like it could be a barnyard mix, but I wouldn't expect to get that from a hatchery. I would have to guess it's a bonus blue swedish??
Cackle. I think its a Blue Swedish now too. But she’s twice the size of the other two.And she’s the boss. She has been named Bossy Flossy.
