my girls (all but one anyway) went in the coop for the first time by themselves last night. i went out about 8 and checked on them and gave a few treats. then went out at 9 and they were all back in the coop, huddled at the door peering out! so cute.

they are almost 5 weeks, so i am impressed.

now on to getting them to roost.

did but them on the roost last night. they were so docile when i went in to get them, i think they were half asleep! not sure if they stayed up on them or not.

I agree, that's great at only 5 weeks.

As for roosting, give them time! As long as they are roosting before they start laying, you're good to go! They're plenty young enough that they will want to cuddle together for a while longer, probably for a few more weeks til they have all their feathers. Let them be babies, Mama! lol.... (I'm smiling and nudging, NOT trying to be unkind here!)

I won't let mine have access to nest boxes til they are close to laying, to avoid having to teach them not to sleep there. They switched over from the floor to the roost for me on their own.

i did go out and check to see if there were any droppings from them roosting and there were! lots!!! so i guess they stayed up there - at least some anyway! so that is exciting. they do like to roost during the day and they do cuddle together still during the day and from the droppings, it looks like they did last night on the roosts.

they are fully feathered. they got them soooo quickly.
they are too cute.
just had friends pull in to come see them.
cannot wait to show them off!!!
thanks...for the info
