Year old duck died

Labored breathing makes me think it might be egg related, Has she been laying often ? Do you provide a source of calcium ? Did she have a upright posture near the pond ?
She was laying limp in the water at the edge of the pond when I found her. She laid an egg every day, but now that I think about it I do think I may have been one short for a couple of days prior.

I feed organic, soy free layer feed. I don't supplement with calcium though. Their shells on their eggs seem plenty hard.

Given that you don't provide a source of calcium and you say she didn't lay for a few days prior, it's possible she may have been egg bound, although making a definite diagnosis on just her symptoms would be hard. I'm sure you have already buried her, next time if something similar happens in the future, I would contact your local poultry necropsy lab for an examination.
