OK, so I know pics are REALLY helpful, but didn't think to snap one at the time. Went to TSC and they had Australops as their breed of the week. They were black with white like the ones I got previously- no problem there.
However, there was a different bin that had little buff colored chicks in it- mouthy little bunch. They all had black beaks and black legs (didn't see the bottoms of feet, but the legs, feet & toes were solid black- NO SIGN. We asked everyone what they were, as I had never seen that breed. No one knew and they couldn't find the invoice from the hatchery.
Can we narrow down what they might be- they were too young to check the wing/tail growth but too old to feather sex. Would like to go back and maybe get some, but would like to have a good guess at what they are or at least what they aren't.
White Australops?

I'm thinking they are Silkies but with really poor top knot formation- these babies heads looked very rounded, which is why I was a little excited. I'm sure Silkies are a lovely breed, just not one I really want... unless someone has a better idea ;)

Do you remember how many toes? 5 toes could be a Silkie, but yes, you would expect the top knot.

I'm racking my brain thinking black or dark beak/legs/feet...there are a few...especially games....Sumatras (but only come in black and blue to my knowledge)...Andalusians, which come in a splash and whose chicks will be yellow with black.

Without seeing the chicks, that's what I can come up with.

Count toes...that would put it in with the Silkie type crowd or the game type crowd (potentially).

I went to TSC the other day and bought 8 out of their "bantam" bin which all were silkies. They were buff with lack legs and beaks - 5 toes... We knew what they were when we bought them and are hoping to have a few "incubators" and surrogate moms when they grow up. We got ours from the TSc in Canton Ohio near Everhard. Was actually surprised they had so many. Normally, the bantams sell out quickly. These were a week old when we picked them up and there were about 25-30 left after we got our 8.
