1) What type of bird , age and weight. Barred Rock, 2 yrs old, heavy -huge bird.
2) What is the behavior, exactly. Yellow discharge from vent. Lethargic.
3) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
4) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. No Incidents Known
5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. Fresh water daily, layer pellets, mixed scratch.
6) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. Slightly runny.
7) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? Nothing.
8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? Home Care.
9) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help. No pics.
10) Describe the housing/bedding in use. Shavings, coop with run. Closed flock.

Please provide any details. Single bird has been affected, however, now 2nd of 7 birds seems to be affected.

Turns out that she has a huge abdomen that is very distended. The vent is a normal skin color. Could this be worms? Internal Layer? There is a terrible odor from her....

I'm guessing the two affected birds are both hens? If so, have they been laying as usual? If they have not been laying as usual, are the shells hard?

The only experience I have with what appears to be yellow discharge is when I have had soft shell layers and the shell breaks inside of the hen - the yolk discharges and is yellow. When the soft shell gets "stuck" inside them, they will start to act very lethargic.

If you know they are laying normally, this is not your issue. But if they have not been laying as usual, or if they have been laying soft shelled eggs, you need to insert a finger in the vent to see if you can locate a soft shell that is "stuck" and gently tug to remove it.

I'm not sure if the above will help, but this is my only experience with yellow discharge. If your issue is different, hopefully someone with more experience specific to this type of issue will weigh in soon.

Best of luck,
Penny

Thanks, Penny, they are hens and they are laying. That was my thought actually.....

Do they lay soft shelled eggs - or have you noticed that you haven't been finding as many eggs as you previously did? Are they pooping as usual?

If there is a soft shell stuck in the vent, you will need to remove it as quickly as possible. It can kill them because it can totally block the vent. Lethargy is the first clue I notice when mine have had this issue.
