Yellow green urate

I’ve been giving her the calcium citrate and D3. She has seemed to perk up some but still isn’t herself. Her bum is right back where it was, lots of yuckies stuck. She didn’t want to eat the calcium last night (I mix it with egg yolk) so I’m really contemplating culling. Quality of life is just not there. She used to be head of pecking order and was a force to be reckoned with. It’s killing me today to see her in her current state. I’m really really battling tears as I type this. I don’t want to cull but I feel like all options have been exhausted. Everything I’ve read and been told is pointing to a reproductive issue. She’s also still eating but definitely losing weight. I’ve not had to deal with this before with one of my girls. I just don’t want her to suffer for longer than she has to. 😭

I’m sorry that she is still not doing well. It was hard for me to put down a couple of my hens who were suffering a lot. But over the years, I felt that was part of raising chickens, not to let them suffer. Many will die on their own, but some can linger and suffer for weeks. I make them as comfortable as possible. When the others peck at them, it is usually time to euthanize. Remember, you can usually learn what was wrong if you get a necropsy. If sending one to the state vet wait until Monday am. Sometimes doing one at home can also give clues if you post pictures of the organs here.

Thank you. I’m still not 100% sure. I’m still holding out hope but I also know that being a good chicken tender I need to be ready to do what’s best for them. She’s one of my original 12 that made me a chicken Mom. I have lost some, but usually I’d find them gone or once there was no fixing her injuries from a dog so I knew what I had to do. The hardest thing about this situation is really not knowing exactly what it is and how to treat it.
After I posted my comment this morning I went out and actually I’m giving the flock some free range time in my garden and Red looks like her old self. I found a worm and she gobbled it up. I will just have to take it day by day and try my best, like you said, to keep her as comfortable as possible for as long as possible.
I’m so thankful for this forum and being able to ask advice and for people like you and others that were willing to give any information and wisdom. I wouldn’t have gotten this far, so thank you from the bottom of my heart. 💜
