I got 4 chicks from tractor Supply that were supposed to be Buff Orpingtons, and they all have yellow legs. They are a very pale yellow at 8 weeks. I'm wondering what I really got?!One of my 6 week old buff orpington roosters has yellow legs. The rest of the orpingtons all have pinkish legs, including the other rooster. Beak and feather color are all the same in the 8 chicks. Did the hatchery make a mistake and send me a buff rock instead of a buff orpington?
I now know that I have leghorns instead of orpingtons. I read that sometimes an orpington can have yellow legs if a recessive gene shows up, but it doesn't happen very often. I'm betting that they did not give you what you asked for! I ended up with only two leghorns as the other two were roosters and I had to rehome them (I live in a close neighborhood). I went back to TS and bought two red sexlinks and two black sexlinks to be safe, however, I believe that they gave me two rhode island reds instead of red sexlinks. sigh.I got 4 chicks from tractor Supply that were supposed to be Buff Orpingtons, and they all have yellow legs.
