I just butchered an older hen and when I opened her lots of clear yellow liquid came out. She also had more of a white liquid run out her beak when I inverted her into the cone. Her liver's color is fine, her heart seemed small but I had just been butchering meat birds. So, perhaps it was normal since she was a cuckoo. She had been acting OK, just not as perky as the other chickens. OK to eat? Dog treats?

Had she been fasted overnight? I'm guessing that the yellow liquid was ascites: fluid build up from a malfunctioning liver. She may have had sour crop, a yeast infection, which would account for her not being as perky as the other birds.

She did not fast. Darn, her liver looked fine and it is in with the others. But, I guess it is the smaller one since the other two were the meat birds. OK to eat? I will look up what you mentioned.
