Can anyone advise me on my options. I have a ?5yr old light sussex hen. She has been a healthy, happy, easy chook to have around. Over past week i have noticed a few things that are now worrying me a lot. She is not mixing with the rest of the chickens as much. I watched her today and she's not that interested in food. My biggest concern is the yellow runny poo she has stuck to her feathers around her vent. No blood in the poo. I caught her today and she might have lost weight. Do you think its curtains for this chook? What could be the problem? I lost a black orpington with similar symptoms not so long ago.

Separating one’s self and lack of appetite can be signs of reproductive or crop problems in chickens, or cancer, other illnesses. At her age of 5 those are very common. Can you feel of the crop and describe if it feel empty, full, hard, doughy, or puffy? Is her breast bone feeling prominent or sharp? Can you feel of her lower belly between her legs to check if it is enlarged, spongy or tight?

Pictures of her and her droppings are welcome. I would offer some electrolytes and vitamins, such as Poultry NutriDrench or other. Sometimes they will take water from a small cup or scoop up to the beak, and if she will drinks some, you can then offer watery chicken feed and chopped egg.
