I have a black sexlink who I suspect may be ill.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed that she didn't come out from under the coop to range in the yard with the other birds. This lasted a couple of days, then she seemed to rejoin the flock. I noticed that she has mustard yellow poo (or something, but not yolk-colored) hanging from her hind feathers.

She's generally acting social again; in the mornings when I come out to feed the five birds, she's right there lined up at the fence with the rest and she seems to be eating well.

I wasn't sure if she was laying or not, but the day before yesterday I found an egg in the nest that, judging by the mess all over the shell, was hers. It was very dirty. The next day, among the other eggs I found an egg in the nest that was crushed flat.

What are your opinions on this? I'd greatly appreciate your advice.

Thank you!

I'm not an expert, but our first hen (a gift from a friend) laid eggs without shells. She would then eat it! yuk. Her vent area was always a mess. We tried giving her lots of calcium, but never got a shelled egg from her.

Thanks for the reply.

She laid fine all last year though. This is new behavior...

I have been putting some garlic in their water for the past couple of days, hoping this helps.

Her comb color is normal.

Thoughts?
