Yellow/ tan crumbly livers

I just butchered out 3 adult hens (approx. 1 y/o) and all three had flimsy/crumbly livers of the same yellow/tan color.

Is this very unusual or something to be concerned with? I've only seen bright red livers in previous flocks.

Could be a few things - two possibilities are excessively fatty livers - or an issue of insufficient iodine in the diet. What was the diet they were given, what was their overall body condition, was there excess fat deposited throughout the carcass?

You know they were fairly fatty all over vs older birds I've culled. They are fed Purina organic layer pellets and were fed Purina chick crumbles.

Fatty liver disease can happen in all sorts of animals. If it's not too late, maybe you could get a veterinarian to look at the liver. Those birds were sick, and you might want to get your flock checked. Sometimes excessive treats of fatty seeds with oily fat, or overweight birds, can get fatty liver. Sometimes it is a symptom of something else wrong. I had a bird die of fatty liver before and she wasn't fat or fed oily seeds, she just grew a huge, pale liver with oily yellow fatty grease... No other birds had anything happen.

I've already tossed the livers out. I did frequently offer safflower seeds as a treat as well as other treat mixes.. I suspect my birds are getting way too much fat in their diet
