Yellowjackets everywhere!

I had some build just above my front door. Strange, because they're normally in the ground. But, sure as heck they were mean, ornary yellow jackets.
I got Spectracide that reportedly shoots 27 feet. I went around to the front while it was still dark, aimed and let 'em have it. I could hear bodies dropping like rain.
It happened so fast they didn't even attempt to come after me.
I did leave a livingroom lamp on so I could barely see.
When daylight came, I looked through the storm door and there were two kicking a little. I waited an hour and swept them up.
I have a hornet nest in a pine tree I'm afraid to tackle. That 27' range might be taxed to the limit and they'll come after you enmass.

We have loads of bees and wasps and hornets and stuff here too. They seem to like the chives and catmint haha lol. We had them make a nest under the railing on our deck they were there for somewhat of a while but then we finally got up the guts to sparay them with that spraying bugspray. My mom sprayed and I ran inside in case they got PO'ed cause I was like scared and one or 2 flew away and I was shouting to her like get it mom get him there he is he's flying away get him haha lol. It was just regular old bugspray u use for mosquitos but it was the long distance sprayer one not the little can you use for mosquitos it was long distance sprayer we were trying to find something to use and that was around and it said wasps and stuff on it so we figured we'd use it and seems to have worked pretty well cause they are not living there anymore although we do still have em around so I think they must have a nest elsewhere or something but I don't know. We usually have those mud things that nest in the yard but they don't really bother/sting you although I am still afraid of them, I am afraid of all bees and wasps and hornets and yellowjackets and stuff.

Yellow jackets don't have the tiny hairs covering their bodies that bees do because they are actually a form of wasp, so the are only very minor pollinators.

I'm allergic to their stings, so I have no moral dilima about killing whole nests.

What Rooster Red says is spot on, though, it's a very common misconception that yellow jackets are bees- not only are they wasps, but carnivorous, wasps to boot... Next time you are at a summer wedding, and there's a swirl of black and yellow over the ham, and the salmon? Those jerk party crashers are... yup... yellow jackets. Rude! ;)
What's more, wasps of all varieties have smooth stingers, which means they can sting over and over. (We all know what happens to poor Mrs. Bee after just one sting.)

Gimme a bee anyday, I say! (Though I am really nervous for my friends with bee or wasp allergies. Scary stuff!)

Here in the PNW we have a ground wasp that's SUPER aggressive- my dog and I were out for a walk a couple summers ago, and all of a sudden, tiny wasps were everywhere. We took off running, but she must have gotten stung 5 or 6 times, anyway. They followed us for BLOCKS. It was awful

Like I said... Wasps are jerks.
