So mom is a Barred Rick, dad is Lavender Ameraucauna. This picture was taken same day he/she hatched. I believe this makes baby a sex link. Boy or girl?

With a barred mother and a not-barred father, male chicks should have barring (and a light dot on the head at hatch), and female chicks should have no barring (no light dot on the head at hatch.)

A Barred Rock hen definitely has barring, and a Lavender Ameraucana rooster should not have barring, so that should work.

I think I see a light dot on the head of the chick in the picture, which would make it a male.

(Note, Lavender Cuckoo would have barring, and would not work as a rooster for producing sexlink chicks. But as long as your Lavender is just plain lavender, no cuckoo, yes you should have sexlink chicks.)

That’s what I figured. Was hoping a girl. Our roo is super mean and we found a new home for him but my hubby can’t seem to let him go. We only have nine hens so can’t keep both. Hopefully my hubby gives this little guy a shot.

We also have to see what we get if the other egg hatches…
