Yep, its a Roo!

So, a few weeks ago I was trying to sex my Ancona that I was suspecting was a Roo ....

Well, at about 5 weeks old, yes 5 weeks, he started trying to crow in the morning. But now that he is almost 8 weeks, he is doing it every day and has a nice comb and wattles

So, my boy is going to live with a friend on a farm in a week or two. From what I read, that sounds really early for crowing?! Has anyone had this experience with them trying to crow so early? It kind of sounds like a mix of a baby crying and a rooster crow!

This was him at about 3.5 weeks:

He likes to stand up high on this garden box and watch over his girls...

Wow I have 6 week old chicks and I can't believe how big his comb and wattle are compared to mine. I wonder if they will look that different in just 2 weeks.

i kept 8 boys this spring until they were over 8 weeks. not a peep (well crow i mean) out of a single one.

In the last 2 weeks his comb has grown substantially and went from light pink to more red. This is my first time with chicks, and I started suspecting he was a roo at about 2 weeks. His behavior was just different and he started developing his red lovlies

He is a handsome boy, isn't he?! All I have to say is my husband is sure glad to have another male in the house! I really hope he does well on my friend's farm. She already has two roosters that work really well together. They added another 25 hens this year, so she wants another rooster to go along with. He will have a nice home on 10 acres, thats for sure!

he IS handsome!!!! We have 33 chicks and I have one that we identified as a roo from the beginning! He doesn't crow yet, but he definitely thinks he is in charge! HA!!! It is so funny watching their personalities

Now as for the rest of the flock... time will only tell how many turn out to be male.....
