I know there have been a lot of posts about grit lately, and I hate to bother people...but I have a question now too!!
My chicks are 4 weeks old and I just started feeding them treats. Mostly soft things, like berries and over ripened fruit, but sometimes I give them a worm from the garden (my husband has been putting crickets in their cage too...they love it!!). I've been letting them free range a few hours a day (supervised), so I wasn't giving them grit, but I sent the hubs out today to the feed store to get some. What he came home with looks like small stones...not at all like the "sand" people describe. The store where he purchased it is where we originally got the chicks, and he insisted that he asked the workers what kind to get for our little babies and they directed him to this stuff.
Should it look like sand? It looks more like gravel to me. I don't want to give them something that's going to hurt them, but I also don't want to feed them treats without it!
Thanks for the help!
