Yes, another sand question. Sand gurus, please see picture!

As far as tracking sand in the house, do you wear the shoes you walk in the coop with in your house?

Try concrete sand which is a mixture of fine sand and a smaller course sand. This is typically used in redi mixed concrete. You dont want what is called mortar sand which is like play sand its reall fine and normally used for brick and block bonding. Hope this helps.

I have tried all the sand that I can find at Lowes. The kind I like the best is what they sell in the Garden area for laying pavers. It has the texture of course ground salt and is not dusty like the play and all purpose sand. The only thing is it is stored out side and can some times be wet when you get it, it dries fast though.

We've had mason sand on the floor of the run for about a week now and they don't seem to care one way or another but I love it! Its so easy to clean, keeps the smell down and looks great!

We have something called "dead sand" here in CT. It's a mixture of about 20% clay and the rest very fine grained sand. We used it in our chicken run, horse stalls and all around the barns/gates/any high traffic area. Dairy farmers around here use it for their barns as well. Here it's only $180 for an entire dump truck load...delivered. If you have a quarry near you they may be able to let you have a smaller amount.

I love the dead sand. Drains great...no mud even after inches and inches of rain. Plus it packs down some so there isn't a lot of dust. And if it gets a little smelly I spray it with the hose and the smell is gone. Plus it dries really quickly.
