Well Alot of people know ive been looking for a drake for the past couple o months, well I finally found someone close by who has a few for sale!

Well I went and picked him up today and I must say he is HUGE! are runners usually this big? He is at least 2 1/2 ft tall if not taller.I mean he makes my buff hen look just pathetically tiny and his feet are HUGE! any thoughts I had that he would be too small to mount anyone are gone. I mean he is the largest duck I now have. ill try and get some pictures posted.

Right now he is getting along well with everyone. the only one who has any qualms is Monty, my current drake. he doesnt like the idea of this young big guy comming in and disturbing his harem.

Anyone have pictures of runner crosses?

Thanks! And you are right, My poor dear parents didnt know what they were getting themselves into when they let me rescue my first duck, a blue swede named Skittles.

Beautiful! I love fawn & whites. Such nice looking birds. Runners have frequently been used as part of the foundation stock for new breeds, because of their excellent laying ability. So your crosses will probably turn out just fine.

I'm planning to cross some magpies with Runners this Spring and see if I can get a Runner-like bird with tri-color or ancona style markings and maybe a calmer temperament (and excellent egg laying but maybe slightly better mothering... oh, so many goals to achieve!).

Anyway. Runners cross very nicely with other breeds. Have fun.

P.S. Edited to add--fawn & whites have an interesting assortment of color genetics that should make for some interesting results, especially if you continue to breed into a third generation, where the possible combinations of genes become especially interesting.

Awesome news! Gotta love the runners.

This is Coco, our Khaki Campbell/F/w runner mix who won Best of Show at our County Fair.

The one in the middle is Clay, a full f/w runner

I finally got one scovie last month at the flea market. Poor thing was being kept with chickens an fit in the palm of my hand - yet the guy tried to tell me it was 2 weeks old. Im thinking it is female but not so sure.

I have a magpie female that Im hoping he wont have too much difficulty breeding with. Anyone have trouble with runner drakes breeding with larger breeds like the magpie? OHHHH I just cant WAIT to see what beautiful colors I get

What does it take to enter a duck in the fair? Ive thought about it but im wondering what exactly is looked for. Does it matter if they are mutts or not? What exactly do they look for? DO they do much ... ahem.. prodding?

My runner boy used to fall off the big girls. He was able to mate my rouen hen but I don't think he ever successfully mated the pekin. He couldn't "reach around" and she hated him. It was funny. The only duck allowed to touch her was my pekin drake.

Im pretty sure he will have no problem with my buff and buff crosses and possibly the cayuga, but the magpie im a littl worried about. Im sure they wont hat him though, as they are constantly trying to get my 10 y/o drake to mate with them. But he has decided he is retired and walks right over them
