Coco is still one of my favorite ducks on this forum. You be sure and let us know if there are offspring someday with a striking resemblance! LOVE the blue/red lacing.

Goat-Walker - these are my three Runner/Magpie mixes (the silver/(lavender?), the blue with splashes of white, and the black duck) all at about 3 months if age.

p.s. It was our Magpie drake that fathered the Runner mixes, though I did see our Runner drake mate with the Magpie duck a few times, though he didn't father any of the babies that she hatched. He's an exceptionally tall Runner and didn't seem that small next to the Magpies (though he seems a bit uncoordinated at times). I did have three ducklings (besides the one's above) that I placed in a home, but I only have pics of them as ducklings. As you'll see below they had more of the penciled coloration.

The woman who has provided them a home sent me pics and they are pretty darn cute all grown up. Hopefully she won't mind if I share - I think it's pretty obvious which are the runner mixes.

Oh, Lorraine, thank you for those pics--I am thinking of crossing some magpies with Runners next spring, looking for some tri-coloration, or at least some pied Runner-like birds. Those pictures are great, and give me a good idea what I might expect from my first generation. Thank you!

L0rraine- Thanks! Coco is one of our favorites. I was hoping he was a girl, but he is turning into a beautiful drake. I'm hoping to have more like him in the spring. Don't really want to hatch anymore right now, but hoping to have a lot in the spring.

GoatWalker- As far as entering in the fair, my boys are in 4-H and belong to a poultry club. That is how they got into the fair. If you belong in any 4-H club though, you can enter you birds. Our club hosted an open show though and that is where anyone that is not in 4-h can be entered. All birds must have had the proper testing before hand (for our fair state requires pullorum test). As far as what the judges are looking for, it depends on the judge. I've heard people say they only want standards, no mixed breeds. But our judges were fully aware Coco is a mixed breed. Perhaps because it was a county fair, the judges were more lenient.

But I think it's amazing he got BEST OF SHOW over all the other birds. 1 kid brought his call ducks and beautiful Seramas. He and his parents travel all over to show his birds including other states. They were very serious. Had call ducks under combination lock. Brought their own vitamin water, etc.... And Coco beat them all!

I had really been hoping for purebreds, but had the darndest time keeping our Magpie drake away from the Runners. It was if he could fly (or walk through walls some days), and even when we thought we had made the 'Magpie pen' completely secure, we would still find him in with the Runners every fourth morning or so. The resulting duckling were still awfully cute, but this year, when it gets close to breeding season, I'm going to keep the Runners in a pen on the opposite side of the yard and see if I have better luck.

Froggie - so Coco is a Khaki Campbell cross and a fawn and white runner? Will you cross the same pair next Spring? I'm too far away I fear (guess we're on different oceans) to beg for a duckling, but it will be interesting to see what eventually results again.

It is interesting to see what some of the crosses create. I for one would love to see Magpie colored ducks with black beaks, though I'm sure there are purists out there who would cringe at that.

Yes, khaki mom and f/w runner dad. yes will definitely cross again. I think I'd be nervous shipping. Though that is how we got our originals from a hatchery. I'd be so worried something would happen to them. My aunt was given another one of these same crosses. I haven't seen her recently, but I believe that one is a female and sounds like she may have similar coloring. Can't wait to go check her out. I may do that this Sunday.
