Guess what??!!

My mom is letting me buy the brinsea octagon 20 eco with the rotator!!!!! It is soooo awesome!!! I can finally get rid of the hova bator!!!!!!!! Any tips on using the 20 eco?? I wanna know everything by the time the incubator gets here!!!

Go to the Brinsea USA website and you can read all about this incubator. I bought one last year with the auto-cradle and I love it. I had one bad experience with a styrofoam bator and knew that there had to be a better incubator. I believe the Brinsea is it. My first hatch last spring, I got 24 out of 24 shipped eggs--more than I had hoped for. It holds the temperature rock steady. Humidity is pretty easy--you need to get a good hygrometer and calibrate it. Clean-up is easy, too--much easier than styrofoam. I hope you have great hatches with your new Brinsea.

Thank y'all so much for the comments!! I am only concerned about is humidity. Can I just fill one tray for the first 18 days and fill both trays durin the hatch?? I don't think it's that simple but I don't have a reliable hygrometer. How do u control humidity?

Your humidity probably will depend on where you are located. I usually fill one tray for the first 18 days. For the last three days I fill both trays and use some folded paper towels as evaporation pads--let one long folded side of the paper towel dip into the water tray and let the rest of the paper towel cover the floor of the incubator. A larger evaporating area makes the humidity go higher. But you'll have to get a good hygrometer to keep a check on the humidity, especially the last three days. Follow the instructions that come with the Brinsea--it's easy to regulate.

I have a genesis 1588, so a good styrofoam bator and I really liked it, until I got my brinsea 20 eco and I LOVE THAT ONE!! So much I bought a second one!! So much easier to clean!!

I live in southern Louisiana!!! Where did u get ur hygrometer?? Ohh and when u first got urs was it set to 99.5? I hope I don't have to tweek mine.

I have tried both a digital hygrometer/thermometer from WalMart and an analog hygrometer (the type cigar smokers use to keep the humidity correct for their cigars) and I really like the circular analog type better. It's like this one on e-Bay:

I just stuck it under the top cover in a place where it is easy to read. I used heavy double stick tape--just a small piece.
It can be calibrated. Just check BYC for instructions for calibration.
I find the thermometer that comes with the Brinsea very accurate.

So the preset temp for the Eco is perfectly correct?? I really want to be able to put the eggs in and forget them!! LOL
