Yesterday's bounty and...

Can you find one or two day-old chicks to add? (I don’t know how you handle biosecurity.)
I went to look for some. No australorps anywhere around me. I only want australorps. We will just help this little one adjust to life in the flock (if it is a girl; if a boy we will rehome as soon as we know). This broody momma seems to nurture her little ones until about 7-8 weeks old. So, hopefully that will be the case with this one.

Thanks.

Well...found this is the egg box this morning so I think it is safe to say that we have at least one baby in the box. Momma is being pretty guarded. I think I will have one egg left when she is done hatching the rest. When I candled a couple of days ago, one was obviously not as developed as the others. The chick inside took up about 1/2 the space as the rest of them. Good lesson for me to mark eggs and pick up any tag alongs!
Momma and her lone baby. Praying it is a girl. The baby is 14 days old today. Mom and rooster teaching it things. I am praying mom stays with it for at least 7-8 weeks because otherwise she will be quite lonely. At 7-9 weeks it will be able to hang on the outskirts of the flock and at least feel like it is a part of it.

If it is a boy, we will look to rehome it as quickly as possible.
