This black copper Maran chick will be 4 weeks old tomorrow. I noticed (s)he has a more pronounced comb than my other chicks, but none of my others are Marans so I can’t compare.
I know it’s very early to tell. Take a guess tho!
Also, what do you make of the yellow feet? They aren’t supposed to be yellow right??

If you happen to be following my other thread about my sick chicks, this is one of my 3 healthy ones. Sadly my 2nd Maran was one of the ones that died. :(

Are all the babies the same age? I have recently learned that leg size is an excellent early indicator (and proved true with my Silver Laced Wyandotte and RIR pullets who I was almost convinced were cockerels due to comb and wattle size and color). The skinnier/smaller legs on both had me holding off and turns out they’re both pullets (or the Wyandotte is a very docile roo who hasn’t started crowing yet and doesn’t have the sickle tail feathers ). You could compare his/her legs to everyone else.

Also, sometimes you can just tell by their demeanor/attitude. I knew Gerard (my Buff Orpington) was a roo at 3 weeks old. He just had that rooster swagger and confidence to wander farther away from Momma Chicken (me) when I had them on my lap in the kitchen. And he was less inclined to return when I called him .
