Our 5-week-olds got a little sun in a dog crate this morning, the first warm morning in a couple of weeks.
Of this hatch, I'm certain this sweet chick is a fella. Little wattles are starting to sprout as well as the comb, and he has the personality to go with them.
Not sure about the second, as the comb style is very different. The area at the base of the beak has been pink on this chick and another from the first day. This baby has a bit of white in the feathering as well, but only in the chest.
The difference has me puzzled. Is it possible with purebred Australorps, or is one of our hens a possible mix? All parents fit the look of an Australorp, and all the mamas came from the same place with that label.
it's OK if there is some mix, but I don't want to tell folks they are purebreds if they aren't...
