Yet another snake post....

REAL TRUE CALIF KINGS (and rosey boas) ARE protected... you need permits to beed them.. every breeder has a numaber and i think every offspring has a number also... (at least here in calif).. there are people that breed them without the permits.. but if you gat caught you are in DEEP trouble... the biggest reason i decided NOT to breed rosey boas is all the PAPERWORK and money for the permits(native caught roseys)..
and YES you need a fishing liscense to own or collect ANY native calif snakes... ANY type.. and there are "bag" limits just like fish..

Right, but they are protected only by CA law not federal which regulates what can/can't be done with them there. Outside of CA is different. Kind of like the black rat snakes here in Mass. In Mass I need a permit to keep them but 5 miles down the road in CT and most of the U.S. you can walk into a pet store and buy one.

i guess you are RIGHT!!! i was told it was a federal law,, and that is why only the BLM handles it not the local animal control...????
but now that i actually engage my brain and think about it,, BLM is state,, and AC is city....
but still to much paperwork for me to want to deal with... i am breeding thayeri instead

I used to have some thayeri a while back. One of my favorites.. The striped desert phase cal kings areal nice as well, especially the ones from the Joshua Tree area.

joshua tree???? hahahahah.. i can see joshua tree from my house.. i used to live there, in a nice area for rosys... but i moved to yucca valley (the next town over from JT) now all i see are mojave greens!!!!

You can buy kings directly from the petstores here too. Still dont understand how that works since Im in CA, but they might not even be Cali's. Im not too familiar with kings, Im more of a Corn Snake person.

Sorry, I am really just kidding!!! I know others feel the same way and I do try to understand that. This thread has just been so overwhelmingly pro snake I had to giggle a bit.

Ha, that cracked me up! I love how pro-snake this post is. Its great to see so many people interested in their good qualities. Guess we all cant always be 100% on one thing. Oh well, pro-snake is the way to go.
