Yikes, Hens beak bleeding slightly from trimming. What to do?

I know this is a controversial subject on this forum, but you have to do whatever is best for your birds and your situation. I clipped just the tip of my RIR hens' beaks b/c they were pecking each other to the point of cannibalism although there were people who said don't do it. They did bleed a little, but the next day it had stopped. They have been fine since then, eating everything they normally do and no more tearing each other up.
If you have $5-$10 for the blinders and another $30 plus shipping for the tool to put on the game bird blinders, that's an option that's been recommended here on BYC. I was short on $ oand needed the problem fixed right away. If you have to have the beak trimming done on any other birds, I would check with a vet as to the safety of the suggestion of the styptic stick anywhere near the mouth/beak- the flour sounds safer… (same thing for dog or cat toenails if you hit the quick and don't have styptic powder).

Beak trimming is one thing, debeaking is another. Often they are confused. Debeaking is when the bone is cut into, while trimming stays in the growing part of the beak similar to the finger nail. Debeaking is the touchy one.
