Turns out at least one hen has been hiding eggs in a pot of mint. There were 17 eggs I didn’t notice, some buried down in the dirt. I opened a few of the discolored ones, pee-yew.

Just to confirm, I don’t have a rooster, so these eggs weren’t growing, they just went bad, right? The inside is kind of reddish brown, and some of the yolks were already cracked. So they are all heading to the trash, what a tragic loss, and with half my hens brooding Instead of laying, we are moving into a severe egg shortage!

My late Plymouth Rock had a nest of 24 and never once went broody. Not a single egg was fertile, either, despite us having multiple roosters. I guess she just knew how to kick their butts. It took 12 days in my bators and a few stinky, sloshy eggs to figure that one out.

EEEK!!

My ducks actually have been my main culprits. They nested under my neighbor's spruce trees. Then the other day I found a nest from one of my hens in a neighbors shed and it looked as it rats had gotten into in
Oh no!!!

I’ve had a nosey possum come after the broken eggs.

My turkey hen laid a clutch of 16 eggs in my hedge and I couldn't find her for two weeks!!! 😂

I know the feeling. We knew we had at least one hen possibly 2 no longer laying in the nesting boxes. We searched far and wide. Never thought to search close and under our nose. One of them was laying in our chiminea that we haven’t used in awhile under our back porch. Happen to find it just a few days ago when cleaning up after a big wind storm. Our weather has been quite mild. Not sure if they will incubate but it’s worth a try as we have 1 rooster in our flock.
