I have much less problems when they come out and I'm cleaning or loading clips for my AK

That is so funny. We pretty much did that when our girls were dating. Met them at the door with a gun cleaning tool...gun broken down. Never had any problems with the guys....fact is they started hanging around and going hunting with dad!! Still do to this day though they didn't marry daughter!

Around here, with five adults in the house, we don't have a problem with trash take out, as there's only - at MOST - one bag of actual trash per month; the rest is all recycled. Now, to get DH or DS to take the recyclables away on a regular basis - well, that's another story...

Thats funny! With 10 of us in the house we go through a full trash can at least once a day!! Unfortunately a lot of it is stuff that I can't put into a compost pile or my worm bin

After watching Oprah on Earth Day and seeing the HUGE garbage swirl in the Pacific (reaches from the coast of CA to the coast of Japan and is 90 feet deep in places), and its affect on our wildlife, it made me feel soooooo much better about what we do as far as recycling!

That show was the same one that showed a family in California that lives on 1/10th of an acre and grow most of their own food, plus have enough left over to sell to local restaurants. They even have goats and chickens in their back yard and live right next to the freeway! I told DH if they could do it, so can we, and that's where the "madness" began!

Be careful how much you take on!!! LOL. I've been trying to get green and selfsustaining for the last 3-4 years. Its gotten so big on me that I have trouble keeping it all going. DH is no help. He doesn't actually seem to *get* it. All he feels is the loss of free time to go places. But would he help so that I have the free time to go places?? Doesn't cross his mind. The chickens, horses, goats, dogs, cats, garden all need to be tended on a daily basis. Never mind the housework. I'm tired most of the time. Its hard work living the farm life with a hubby that is city minded. But we have some terrific meat and veggies.

Our guide has been to add 1 project/animal at a time and give it a few months to smooth out before we add more. As I tend to get REALLY enthauastic and throw myself into thing, a calmer hubby evens me out. The garden is in full swing and the bunnies and chickens are moving smoothly, so time to add quail, next year we'll add turkeys and perhaps a few ducks.

I have the garden, fruit trees, and chickens for eggs figured out. Now I'm going to try processing this summer any roos I get from this hatch, and adding quail, for eggs and working myself up to processing.

How easy are quail chicks to sell on craigslist? I'm a true hatchoholic, and it would be cool to be able to sell the chicks for a little feed money after mine start laying...
