Yikes my incubator temp was at 117* this morning!!!

I had mine go up to 115 degrees too when i I was sleepingafter I set eggs. My eggs were viable! I had 12 eggs. After 7 days all had growth- I lost 6 eggs by day 10 from early deaths. I have 4 healthy fluffy chicks now (I lost 2 eggs at the end - 1 due to a ruptured air cell and 1 due to shrink wrapping). Keep them going!

I had the same thing happen in my other incubator, too and all 12 eggs are fine! They are due Sunday to hatch.

It always happens to me every time I incubate... Temps stay steady for the first full day and then I wake up in the morning and bam, mine was at 106.8... Knew enough to just adjust the temp and keep going... Today is day four, I candled and there is veining in all 10 eggs.. I would tell you not to give up until at the very latest day 14...Candle at day 7 and 10 and if it did indeed kill the embryos you should know.

Ideally you do want lower temp problems in the beginning then higher.

I am happy to say that at day 7 we have veins in all the eggs I candled!!! The temp has stayed consistent between 99 and 100* since the mishap on day 1! My 9 year old son was so excited to see the veins, and momma was too!

YAY!!!!
I know everyone says high temps kill the embryos ... But personally I think that happens if it is too high and extended- like 110 for 2 days or something. I think the humidity really saves eggs from the temp spikes.

I am so happy to hear this--my gut feeling was they'd be ok because they wern't at the high temps too long and you were just into the incubation. Keep us posted, ok?

Just the opposite of too hot. Last night a possum chased my setting hen off her eggs. They were probably without her setting on them for 6 hrs???????? She got back on immediately this morning. The eggs were cold to touch . Temp got to 40 degrees last night. This would be their 13th day of incubation. Is there a way to tell if the embryos survived?

Nedd help on this. Thanks.

This isn't ideal, but is a much better scenario. Leave her be. My guess is that while this pushed the extreme edge of things, the embryos just suspended for 5 hours and she'll be back to making them grow even now.
Thanks Fred's Hens. The hen continued to set and all of the eggs hatched about 1 day late. Nature is good.

That just happend to me last night then my incubator shut off today but i got it running well now and i hope they pull through. What kind of chicken eggs were in your incubator kuperjolene
