Six weeks ago, my egg count dropped from an average of 11 a day (from 13 hens) to TWO. Everybody was molting. The two that continued to lay were two of my dark brahma girls; they were starting to molt, but continued laying.
Four weeks ago, the egg count dropped to one a day, sometimes one every other day as one of the two dark girls dropped out to finish molting. One girl has continued to lay, molt and all.
Today there are THREE hens on the nest! The dry spell is over!!
One hen is being extra cute. She's sitting on the nest and stealing pieces of hay from the adjoining nest to fix hers just so.
