Welcome to BYC. You do not have to have chickens to participate. Just a willingness to learn and share. I also believe that raising chickens is as close to being with God as one can be on earth.(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes. I’m new to raising chickens. My grandfather raised them in Puerto Rico for many years. I would visit him as a child and have always wanted to raise chickens.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Right now - none but we’re looking to get about 4 to start.
(3) What breeds do you have?
None at the moment, but I’m researching which ones to get and why.
So far I like the Buff Orpington variety.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I can only assume at this moment right now since I’m new to all this, but I think my favorite aspect of raising back yard chickens would because it’s rewarding, a source of therapy to be able to raise and care for beautiful and majestic animals. A sense of purpose to get up and take care of them, so they can be healthy and happy.
Plus the bonus of having a source of FRESH eggs!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I’m pretty much a “homebody”. I am either at work or at home, with the occasional outings with my family.
I enjoy watching movies and making it a movie night occasion.
I really enjoy cooking! I am a decent cook and my boys looove my cooking!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We are a fun bunch of loving individuals. We all have our little quirks and personalities. I’ll spare you the long winded version and skip to the meat…
Married 18 years… 2 sons… no pets at the moment. We once owned a tortoise for about 7 years until my boys grew out of the “fascination of a tortoise” phase.
What do I do for work? Not sure if ok to post about this here but…
I’ve worked in the Cannabis Industry for over 6 years. I’m a GM to a recreational dispensary in NJ. I got into the “industry” as a cannabis patient and advocate.
I love animals of all kinds and raising chickens has been a childhood dream.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC while doing research on my new hobby.
What made me finally want to join this awesome community?
Because I’m sure there are other like minded individuals who feel the same as I do about these beautiful creatures.
I believe raising these animals is as close to being with God as one can be on earth.
The whole idea of “community” is built on taking care of not just these creatures but each other is SO AWESOME.
I am so grateful that BYC exists. Thank you for reading !

I would like to know this as well. I think it could potentially be a safer option for pain control also.We were just today discussing cannibas for birds as in cbd oil to help with their health. there is someone with a drake that is full of anxiety and they were asking for suggestions about how to help calm him down . do you know anything about cannibas for poultry and or waterfowl? I know there are cbd treats made for dogs.
