1/2 inch hardware cloth is the best for protecting your flock. Securely fasten to a fence on the walls and ceiling (if ceiling is not hard top), and then attach to the bottom of fence and then run along the ground 18-24 inches and put dirt or rocks on top of it. Then you also protected them from digging predators. If you have very big predators to deal with - you may want to consider an electric fence - but this doesn't take place of the hardware cloth.
