Yolk-like discharge.. SICK! PLEASE HELP!!

Sorry that I didn't get back to you earlier. When inserting a finger into the vent it would only be about 1 1/2 inches, or when you meet resistance. I would put her back into the flock and just watch her to make sure she is not having problems.

Eggsessive has given excellent advice. Don't just to conclusions about what she might have. Sounds like a case of an egg being laid and broke. I'm assuming that the foreign matter is gone because her vent now looks normal. Put her back with the other hens but keep her separated from then with a small fence or something. If she is away from them too long they will fight with her when she is reintroduced. Give her water and food and maybe a treat that she will eat to get her appetite back. Scrambled egg or leftover pasta smushed up or applesauce.

If you don't have a rubber glove you can always cover your finger with a sandwich baggie or two. Always use some king of lubricant like vegetable or or a bit of petroleum jelly. I would try a warm bath first and try to remove the 'yuck' before the internal exam because if there are egg fragments inside you can cause a puncture and the resulting infection can kill her.

The chicken in a cage over steam is new to me. I'm going to have to do research. I can't see what benefit that has. I know it would scare the heck out of the chicken.

I am not a chicken expert by any means (had them for a little over a year) but wanted to mention that my chicken that was diagnosed with Cocci had droppings that looked very much like egg-yolk (clear/mucusy with a yellowish white mixed in). So I wonder if that could be an issue with your girl? I would keep an eye on her poops, it's possible that is what was on her rear, it tends to stick to the feathers. I initially thought it was yolk as well since it looked so similar. Mine laid a beautiful egg the next day so I don't think hers was egg-related, just bad poo...
