Hi friends! I’m really hoping to not hear that this is a symptom of EYP! Lost my best girl a few months ago to it and not ready to go through again! One of my EE chickens laid this egg today that had a think layer of what looks like yolk on it. She is acting normal, free ranging, eating, drinking. Egg is hard and normal shaped but just has yellow on it. She has been laying normal eggs daily so could this be a fluke or something more serious? Do I start antibiotics or wait and monitor? Thanks I’m advance for the help! ♥️🙏🏻

Could a egg have broke on it? To ME it looks like one of my VERY dirty duck eggs!😂😂
Their eggs have been so dirty lately! I’ve been working all day so not able to grab till all girls have laid and gotten dirty feets all over them! This yellow, yolkish… I don’t think an egg broke because no shell or anything in nesting box.

Perhaps that’s what’s going on.. I hope! Thank you ☺️
I was going to say the same thing. All of my hens favor one of my four nest boxes. If I'm a little late gathering eggs, one might get broken in the pile. I can tell when that's happened when my eggs look just like that.

Ooh I hope you all are right! 🙏🏻🥰🐓 I just lost a girl to a year long battle with EYP and this scared me! My EE who laid this is young.. just started laying a few weeks ago. I didn’t think it was an eaten egg because there was zero evidence of that but I’ve heard they can eat it all?! I also checked her vent and seemed totally fine. ♥️🙏🏻 Thank you so much.

I'd def keep an eye on her, just in case. Check her abdomen and her crop periodically, examine her poop for lash material, etc.

Fingers crossed that's all this is!

Thought I’d send you an update! I think you were correct about them eating an egg and making a mess! 😂 All my girls are laying beautiful clean eggs (cleaned nesting box and gathered quickly)! Everyone acting normal so I think that may be what it was. Thanks again!
