Packing peanuts are almost ALWAYS roos...that's how hatcheries get rid of many of their extra boys...

We went through that too...fortunately we welcome extra roosters as dinner guests here. We got ten packing peanuts, and one had us fooled that it was a girl up to just a week ago, and they are 5 months old. It looked like a hen, acted like a hen, never crowed...then I saw it grab another hen and mate it, so into the rooster pen it went.

I know that hatcheries usually put packing peanuts, and I find it silly

Why include extra chicks that are almost all roosters? What if you can't keep that many chicks?
