So I am 22. I bought my first house with my husband in December, and despite the weather, I started immediately converting an old shed into a chicken coop. I've always wanted chickens.
Here's my start :

I almost hate this website because there's all these good things said about EVERY chicken breed. And so my list of chicks i wanted started out big. And then the farm store had a bigger selection than I thought. I knew I was in trouble. I had a huge coop and run so I knew I could get a good number of chicks.
(Chicken math? What's that....)
I started out with "Straight Run"
4 Buff Orpington
2 Silver Laced Wyandottes
1 Black Sex Link
3 Amberlink
1 Buff Brahma
1 Barred Rock
A huge random group but I wanted a little bit of everything.

As they have gotten older, it's becoming apparent that many of them are roosters (or so I think).
I wanted some Rhode Island Reds, but the farm store I went to didn't have them.
(I keep reading about chicken math...)
Then I made the mistake of going to a different farm store.
I understand chicken math now.
3 Rhode Island Reds
2 Ameracauna (aka Easter Eggers?)
2 Barred Rocks...all 7 are supposedly guaranteed to be pullets (which is why they cost twice as much).

They are so addicting already, and at first I loved this sight but now I need one of everything.
I also spent time making the $3 feeder.

My husband is ready to move out.
I think I have a problem. :)

Edit: That was supposed to be funny. I have plenty of space for the chickens I have. My husband loves them too. They are all healthy and happy and I'm just a happy chicken mom now. I don't really think I have a "problem". **

I'm not seeing a problem at all. Perfectly healthy, normal behavior in my book. Predictable, even. Next year you'll be on researching goats or ducks or turkeys, then move up to pigs after that. Welcome!!!

Welcome to the addiction

Fortunately you have a nice big chicken run to accommodate chicken math. I love having a variety of breeds in my flock, and I think you will, too. It was a good idea to more get pullets to increase the female to male ratio.

You all are great :) so far so good. And I already have horses, cats, dogs, and now chickens... I don't need anything else lol

Finished the coop today :)

Sure....no, not a problem saraiq...

Denial ....lol.

I have room...the neighbors might think im a nut nut..... When they see the six week olds appear in the yard. I accidentally (oopsie) ordered like 45 chicks of a variety of breeds that i like and have a strong return on investment as pullets. I am running numbers daily of how many i "need" to keep....maniacal laugh....maniacal laugh. :lau
