you keep the light on at night?

When I first got chickens I was told by an old farmer to keep the light on 24/7. That was years before I found BYC. So that is what I have done. It has caused none of the ill effects that some people think. Since it works for me I see no reason to change. It is really your choice.

MY DH thinks we need to keep the light on ALL night Every night...I say turn it off so they can sleep.. Who's right? me or him??

You're right. Chickens need time to rest and recharge just like we all do. Adding supplemental light for a few extra hours a day in the winter months is fine, but it's not a good idea to keep the light on 24/7. (Now, what do you win?!??)
