ZOWIE!!! It's chicken crack! Please note the blurring in the photo below...

They keep demanding more! Can they eat too much? And can they eat too much of plants/grass, in general?

Thanks!

Mine never have eaten my Hosta. They scratched it up and laid all over it but never ate it. It was cool for them to lay on under the back porch and they pooped all over it, too. In the last 2 years it gave up trying to grow.

Yup, that's a good description. I only let them out to free range occasionally but after their very first free range outing my hostas are diminished to standing leafless stalks. I have the same question as ninabeast, can they eat too much?

Mine have never bothered my hosta, but I did leave a peace lilly in out side one time and is was only stalks left when I found it.

Kill a hosta? You should see what slugs and snails can do. I wonder if Hostas do to chickens what Spider plants do to cats. Did you know that cats like spider plants cuz it gets them high like catnip? My daughters cat got up on the china cabinet and destroyed all the little spiders. They've yet to grow back.

Now if you see a black light in your coop and hear Jimmy Hendrix you'll know they're eating your Hostas for more than just to peck at something.

I am really surprised by this comment! Is your deer density low in your part of NY? The deer here head for the hostas before anything else and mow them right over.
So do the slugs, rabbits, and everything else.
