Young Broody Hen

She(hopefully) is an EE. I started with 6 EE eggs and 6 Blackastralorp eggs. After candling a week ago I removed 3 eggs for no development. The eight that haven't hatched all have large dark masses and veining, but haven't hatched yet. She hatched yesterday. How long can the difference be in hatch times? And with the remaining eggs I don't hear any pipping.

As I understand it, hatching can begin on say 20 and as late as day 25. In my experience I've had all eggs hatch within three days of one another.

Ok, I won't panic yet than!

Yeah don't panic. And who knows, these chicks are fast...you can check them and a minute later they can start their hatching and be done before you come back an hour later!

The snow is really coming down here in Parker, in hidden village, at 6550'. Seems a line of energy keeps streaming over us west to east. I'm not complaining as we will enjoy the water and it makes for snuggling by the fire all the better.

The peeps are doing great...moms keeping them plenty warm and they have a heat lamp for good measure.

Registering 6F right now and wind...yuck...hate wind. Cold is fine if it's not windy.

I'm trying really hard to be optimistic, and patient, but I'm starting to lose hope . Lil' peep hatched on Friday which was 21 days, but nothing from the others. I have candled them and there are dark masses in the remaining 6 eggs, but I'm not detecting any movement, and no pips. (I started with 12 and have had 5 that showed no signs of development so I removed them). Someone told me the Momma wouldn't keep sitting on them if they were bad, but I'm not sure. How long do you wait? I was really hoping Lil' Pip wouldn't be an only chick.

If I don't hear anything, I figure they are a no go. Unless you added them late to the nest, they should have been hatched by now, I would think. I 'set' my clutch all at one time, and I think that is what you did, in my experience, they all hatch with in 24 hours when you do that, and really much closer to 12 hours or less.
