Because I'm not sure whether I should separate her from her sisters or not. She got those sores from my barred rock hen. I saw some blood on her foot. I think she accidentally stepped on her and scratched her head in the process. She's a lot bigger than her.im worried that it'll happen again.
The chick may be a bantam, or may be stunted/failing to thrive due to not taking in enough food due to it's difficulty getting around. I would not leave it in with the larger birds. It is likely being picked on since it appears to be weak to the others. That is a survival instinct by the birds to drive a weak one out, weakness in the flock draws predators, that is hardwired in them. If you want to try to keep the chick then I would separate in a separate space where it cannot be attacked. I would also start monitoring it's food intake and weighing regularly to make sure it is growing, or at a minimum not losing weight. It may be slowly starving. The leg is likely painful to put weight on, so I would seriously consider it's quality of life. Only you can make the call of what is best for the chick.
Actually, I started hand feeding her about a month ago bc I noticed that she was having trouble getting around. As far as I know, the others haven't been picking on her, but they do occasionally step on her by accident. From the looks of things, my barred rock chick accidentally stepped on her and made the sores in the process.
I make sure that she gets plenty of food and water every day. She seems to be healthy and can even go to the grate section of the chick box on her own to cool off. I'm just worried about her being in there when she's so much smaller than the others now.
I've never seen any sign of bullying, or injuries like this before. All 3 of them have lived together since they were tiny fuzz balls. I know that chickens are social creatures and need friends, that's why I hate the idea of separating her.
