A friend of mine had just got baby chicks, as of today they are between 3 days and a week old. A couple of them had abnormal stuff on their vents including dry crusty skin above their vents, a white liquid coming out of their vents, under their vents seemed to be swollen and bare (could be because feathers were damp from white substance), and right under the tail seemed to have blood lightly streaked, although it might have just been from droppings. The chick seems very tired and weak, when I was trying to clean up its vent it was chirping loudly and its vent moved a bit so I believe the white substance isn't fully blocking its vent but is causing the chick a bit of discomfort. The chick ate a little bit from the feeder when I put it back.

The brooder has both chicken-chicks and turkey-chicks, a white heat lamp, large waterer, agrimaster starter/grower crumble feed, and its resting on the bottom of an old stall (bedding is a mix of dirt, hay, and very few old goat/sheep droppings).

My question is: what do you guys think is going on with the chicks? Have you ever dealt with this before? As well as any tips.

I have a picture below of the chick in the worst conditions vent after I tried cleaning it up a little bit. As soon as I got home I stayed away from my coops and washed my cloths just in case this is contagious and serious. I've tried doing some research and came up with vent gleet, but I could not find anything on baby chicks having it.

Edit: I should also note that the chicks growth seems to be slightly retarded compared to the rest.
