(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to chickens! It's something we (family) have talked about for a while, and then plans got delayed due to a tornado tearing down our street in March. But in April (19th), we adopted 4 day old chicks, and less than a week later added a 5th little cutie. They were 2 Golden Comet Cinnamon Queens (Butter, who recovered from splay-leg beautifully and Alfredo my current girl), 1 Easter Egger (KFC, my little darling, loved to sit on my hand and never wanted to leave), 1 Rhode Island Red (Henrietta, because, of course!), and 1 Australorp (Fajita). As you can imagine, it broke my heart-and it's still so so sad in there-when we went on vacation and a predator claimed all but Alfredo.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Right now we have 4 chickens. Alfredo, an Easter Egger from a farm as of Sunday, and 2 Chocolate Orpintons, one of which is very sick right now.

(3) What breeds do you have?

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love spending time with Alfredo, watching her on her swing or feeding her tender blades of grass. Today she tried chopped cucumber for the first time and loved it. She doesn't like to be held like some of the other did, but she's a great conversationalist.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like to garden, flowers and vegetables, travel, spend time with my kiddo.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We also have 3 indoor rescue cats and 3 aquariums. Oh, and an indoor goldfish "pond" which consists of a very large pot and a small fountain :)

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
I have known about BYC for a little while, during the time (pre-chick-mom) of research and fact finding about what we would really be getting into, and found it was a great resource of so many aspects of chicken keeping-truly invaluable.
