Young chicken laying habits

What breeds did you get? They can be quite an age difference between one breed starting to lay and another. First eggs - called pullet eggs may be very small and gradually increase in size as the hen gets her laying machine in sync. New layers may also produce a couple eggs and then stop for the same reason.

Hi Sarge, Welcome to BYC!

We have 8 hens who lay about 4 to 6 eggs per day. The Reds lay almost daily and I read they can lay 250 eggs per year or more. The Andelusian lays only every other day at most. Since it is cold now, they all seem to be slowing down and we get more like 4 eggs a day. We've had our girls since March, they started laying in August. Hope this helps!
