I have a naked neck pellet that’s been laying in a nesting box with no eggs. She’s stopped laying all together. She seems broody but there’s no eggs!

9 months old
Was laying fine for about 2 months
No eggs for 2 weeks now
Warm climate so no cold or light issues
Lower on the pecking order
No mites or other bugs that I can see
Seems broody- feathers puff out when approached.
Gets up once it he middle of the day to eat and drink than goes back to nesting area (she chose it in a separate area from my other nesting boxes)

I could NOT feel an egg so don’t think she’s egg bound. Her port seems a little big like she’s trying but can’t feel one. Hubby and I both checked. She’s young and was introduced to the flock with a few other pellets. All have integrated and are roosting together now.

Any ideas why? Should I be concerned?

She just sounds broody to me. Some breeds/individuals are more prone to broodiness than others and they don't (unfortunately) need eggs in the nest to go broody. As long as she still comes out to eat and drink I wouldn't be concerned, though extreme brooders can start to lose weight from sitting in the nest day after day. Some people break broodiness by keeping the hen in a wire crate with food and water for a couple days (the cold air on their bellies usually snaps them out of it). I just pull my brooders out of their nest and put them into the yard a couple times a day to encourage them to get out. Most take the hint and get back to their normal selves within a week or so, though I do have one champion brooder who will go a whole month no matter what and throw a huge fit if I don't let her sit in the nest 🤷‍♀️

That’s what I was thinking it was. Just hadn’t realized they would do so without eggs. 😆 yes I’ve been making sure she gets out a couple times a day to eat and drink. I’ll also make sure she has time to eat without the other hens bothering her. She’s lost a little weight but nothing seems to be wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️
